Formation

FORMATION

The formation of religious life has always been an important concern of the Church as a whole. It is said that the future of the church in India depends on the quality of the religious who come out of our Formation Houses. Hence it’s necessary to provide a suitable environment for the religious to grow in the likeness of Christ.

Answering God’s call to the Consecrated Life is one way of deepening your baptismal commitment as a faith filled Catholic Christian. There are different steps to become a Salvatorian sister. Initial formation is made up of four stages: Aspirancy, Postulancy, Novitiate, and Temporary Profession. The purpose of initial formation is to help the candidate discern ones future, looking life in a better way and to seek the ways of God from different angles and mainly to fit themselves into the congregation with the needed transformation. In addition, initial formation is a time of mutual discernment on the part of the candidate and the community. The next stage begins with the final commitment called ongoing formation.

The sole aim of the stages of our formation is to help the Formees to be an integrated person to fulfill the vision and mission of our Venerable Founder Father Francis Mary of the cross Jordan and Co-Foundress Blessed Mary of the Apostles. Each stages of our Formation in different parts of India focuses on the universal spirit and the inter cultural openness of the formees. The early stages like orientation or pre-novitiate world normally have the focus of human formation, faith formation and mastering of English language which is the usual medium of instruction during the successive stages of formation. Novitiate formation would normally have spiritual formation as its main focus while at the same time keeping in mind the affective, communication, apostolic, intellectual and cultural aspects which are integral to the formation of religious.

Formation embraces the whole life of the consecrated person. So the formators who accompany the younger ones on their formative journey has a lifelong influence in their lives and they participate with the creative and the constructive action of God. According to the signs of the times, based on the needs of the youth and the challenges of the society, we Salvatorian sisters earnestly desire a personalized accompanied Holistic formation which is rooted in the model of Jesus according to the vision and mission of our founders.
